On with the show!
Here, Tay is washing the carrots for a stew we were making for dinner.
I have been teaching both the girls safety with chopping foods, and I found that for Ri, who is not quite three yet, the crinkle cutter that requires both hands is the safest since it forces her to keep her hands away from the item being cut. This requires a lot of focus for both of them, and both really enjoy doing so. I find that cutting more firm vegetables and fruits like carrots and apples work best. Make sure you slice the vegetables so that they can lie flat to reduce "rolling" of the item being cut. This crinkle cutter is the one Ri is using because it's small and a perfect size for her hands. Just a reminder, all cutting should be done under close supervision!
And here was our dinner made with our crinkle cut carrots (and some experimentation with cabbage cutting).
Another activity I introduced this week is familiarization with music reading. We used yarn to make the staff and the girls played on them a bit while I explained what the lines and spaces represented. Ri just kept squishing up the lines, so next time, I think I might tape down the lines or use something else. Tay really got familiar with middle C and G, and would then figure out the other notes using those two notes as a reference.
Then, we played a game where I gave her two notes and she would place the apples on the staff! So proud of herself.
German Kindergarten started this past Friday. Because they go to the afternoon session (12:30-17:30), they no longer needed me to pack a lunch for them, but they did need an afternoon snack packed daily, so I purchased the PlanetBox Shuttle as a surprise for them and presented it to them on Friday morning. The kindergarten also asked that each child bring a plastic cup to be left at the school for drinks.
For their first day, this is what I packed for them...banana (with secret message, that really isn't so secret the way I did it), olives, hard-boiled egg, and star sandwich. :)This is how I got the girls ready for their first day of school. I called out an item on the list to bring to school, and they lined them up to ensure we had everything we needed. We labeled everything and then it was on to photos!
Of course, Tay was the professional when it came to photos...
This little gal, on the other hand, decided she wanted a photo with her balloon...
And then...she made this face! Silly girl...
But, I love her! And I can't believe she is already starting school...my baby girl...
And of course...I can't leave this little gem out...she loved running around in her new rain boots so much that in a spur of the moment, she grabbed her boots and went out in the backyard to play...in her underwear.
Now, on to this little crazy teething baby of mine...:)I don't know if the teething has anything to do with it, but she has begun making this silly face all the time...I have no idea who she might have learned it from, but I remember both Tay and Ri did this around this age.
Of course, the funny faces aren't limited to those above.
Here, I tried to get a photo of her first tooth that sprouted: the front left bottom tooth! She has also taken a liking to eating food I'm holding in my hand by lunging forward for it as I try to eat it, so I just let her taste it if it's something she can have. She loves bananas...
...and broccoli, apparently. :)
...uh...and beer? No. Just wanted to get a size comparison of the new beer Jeff brought home. ;)
And...of course, the size comparison with the pumpkin!
Hehehehe...:)
That's about all for this little six month old who sprouted her second tooth today, the front right bottom tooth!
On with the food for this week...
Coconut flour brownies...I adjusted the recipe and replaced the sugar with honey and the butter with coconut oil...turned out wonderfully delicious. Here's where I got the recipe. Let me know if you'd like me to include my step-by-step in my other blog.
The deliciously HOT Cortez salsa/hot sauce.
Pumpkin pancakes! I was in a hurry, so I just took a cup of the pre-mix I had (just add water kind), added a cup of pumpkin purée, a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice, and a little water to get it to the consistency I needed for pancakes. Turned out delicious and surprisingly fluffy!
Ah, and my experimentation with apple strudel. It was "okay," but I could definitely use much more practice in stretching the dough and include much more apples in the stuffing!
Still pretty tasty and definitely pretty... :)
And...my giant batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for our church social. These were GONE by the time I went back to the table for seconds...must have been tasty.
OK! It's past my bedtime here. Good night! Gute Nacht!
